about

The rich texture of voices, horns, guitars and keyboards on “More Than One Way” holds you like a velvety comforter, but the Steve Gadd-like energy of Larry Finn on drums makes this song anything but sleepy. The repeating horn riff at the end has been linked to altered states of consiousness, so perhaps best not to listen too closely while driving.

lyrics

Bought it
I believed what you told me
Got it
I got the message, yeah
I believed when you told me that I was gonna have to do it your way
You said there's only one way.

Caught it
I caught the fever you were givin' me
Thought it
I was obsessive, yeah,
I was burnin' with the knowledge that you were gonna point me to the one way
You said there's only one way.

You touched my soul for a while
You got me out of my head when I needed you
And always made me smile
But the price
That you asked
Me to pay was over and above
The normal dedication of love

But it was
Not it
It's not the way that I wanted
Fought it
I fought your method, yeah
I rejected all the parts of your plan that said I'd have to do it your way
I know there's more than one way
