about

by David Thorne Scott

(from the liner notes by Will Friedwald) As far as I can tell, "Clown Stalking" doesn't seem to be any kind of metaphor for anything, it is, quite literally, a song about being stalked by a clown. (Been there. Done that. Bought the T-shirt.) It's also another opportunity for a scat chorus.

lyrics

Walking downtown
Down clowns find you
Look all around
No one’s round you
Happy, smiling, scary
Clearly
They are out to get just you

But then you cry out loud,
You’re hoping somebody will answer your call
Though nobody comes, the clowns are gone
The coast is clearing up and you’re not feeling so small
And keep on a-walking

Hearing footsteps
Right behind you
Don’t look back the clowns are there!
